Not my pet!

This creature, the monitor lizard lives in the monsoon drain just opposite my house. I have seen another one before. Perhaps, there is a whole family of monitor lizards living there! The other one was even bigger. When I saw the 1st one, I thought it was a crocodile but later concluded it was not because the head is too small.

This picture is one of the only two I managed to capture of the ML. Then my camera battery died. I don't suppose I will ever make a good National Geographic photographer.

They can move very quickly. I think  these ones that live near my house feeds on quails that I see often on the banks of the monsoon drain. It is rather fascinating to me that wild life lives so near, well, as long as it does not endanger anybody. This one is more than a metre long.
