Ah! Midlife!

I went to collect my contact lenses today. I use monthly disposable ones and mine had run out.

I intentionally did not put on my contact lenses today because I wanted my eyes checked. I have been having trouble focussing lately.

When I got there, I put my head into this contraption and I see a blue hot air balloon far,far away at the end of a long, long straight desert road.

Verdict :

"Maam, you vision has not increased"

"Then how come I cannot seem to read or focus properly?"

"Maam, may I ask how old are you?"

"I am _______"

"Then what I think is, you need reading glasses"

Horrors! I have arrived! Mid-life! It's a crisis!

"Ok, how much are one of those bifocal thingys?"

"For your power, it'll costs about RM1200"

Blimey! I might as well sell off an eye to get one of those!

Conclusion: No bifocals for me. I'll just get a magnifying glass. Andrew's grandfather used one and he read the papers till he was a 100. He had cataract problems too.

aunty, 1200 considered murah already loh. i dont think its bi-focal that the optician is quoting you; at that price it has to be multi-focal. ppl will not notice if you are wearing multi-focal lens; best example is me lah.i have been wearing them for the last 10+ years. each pair costs me almost 2000, so i stretch it a bit lah, wearing it for at least 2-3 years. welcome to the 'orang tua' category. fyi, mine is high index, high astik, high left eye! i was told that my left lens is the most difficult to get on the market and have to be specially ordered.

Whatever focal lah. I am NOT getting it. (Sorrowfully, I may have to eat my words. It's really inconvenient not to be able to read)

dont lah like that. you will look absolutely nice in yr new glasses. sorry that it is not available on contact lenses. you will look very, very young; i promise you; unless you go get those 'black frame, black rim' type. do it for a change and you will feel much better. dont think about those technical terms lah, so long as you dont get a bi-focal lens, ok? trust me; as i said, i have been wearing them 'multi-focals' for the last 10+ years and i am due for a change next year or year after that.

I have heard, I can get some cheaper reading glasses. Yup, ones I can wear with my contact lenses when I need to read. Forget the ultra expensive ones. I will just not read when I am not wearing my contacts.
